A Manitowoc man accused of making death threats with a machete is due in court.
31-year-old Dakota A. Hefty will be in front of Judge Jerilyn Dietz tomorrow for his competency hearing.
Hefty has been charged with Second-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety and Disorderly Conduct, each carrying use of a dangerous weapon modifiers.
These charges stem from an incident that occurred on April 9th in the 900 block of Jay Street.
Manitowoc Police were called to a residence after someone claimed that an individual, later identified as Hefty, threatened to kill him with a machete while he was fixing a faulty electrical outlet.
During the altercation, the 31-year-old told the victim that they “should not be inside the apartment” before grabbing a machete and an airsoft gun.
It is alleged that Hefty fired the airsoft gun at the floor in an intimidation attempt before waving the blade of the machete through the air, stating he was going to kill the victim and cut their head off.
After police questioned Hefty, the victim, and witnesses, the 31-year-old was arrested.
Until tomorrow’s hearing, Hefty remains confined in the Manitowoc County Jail on a $2,500 cash bail.
