Bail has been set and charges have been formally filed against the Manitowoc man who threatened to cut someone’s head off with a machete.
Court records show that 31-year-old Dakota A. Hefty has been given a $2,500 cash bond by Manitowoc County Court Commissioner Jewel Scharenbroch.
This comes as Hefty has been charged Second-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety and Disorderly Conduct, each with the use of a dangerous weapon.
During the 31-year-old’s initial appearance, he and his legal counsel waived the reading of the criminal complaint and demanded a preliminary hearing.
Hefty was arrested on April 9th after Manitowoc Police were called to a residence in the 900 block of Jay Street for a weapons complaint.
Officers learned from a victim and witnesses that Hefty became agitated with an individual who was inside his and his mother’s apartment to fix an electrical outlet.
He then proceeded to grab an airsoft gun and a large machete and waived the blade through the air telling the victim he was going to kill them and cut their head off.
Upon his arrest, the 31-year-old was transported to the Manitowoc County Jail where he remains in custody on his $2,500 cash bail.
Hefty will be back in court tomorrow (April 23rd) for his preliminary hearing at 2:00 p.m. in front of Judge Jerilyn Dietz.
