Court hearings have been delayed in a Manitowoc County child sexual assault case.
29-year-old Jose Medrano was present yesterday (June 29th) for his initial appearance as he faces seven felony charges, including First-Degree Child Sexual Assault -Sexual Contact or Intercourse with a Person Under the Age of 13, Grooming a Child for Sexual Activity, and Exposing Genitals to a Child, among others.
At yesterday’s hearing, it was revealed that Medrano is still without a lawyer and that he is waiting for one to be appointed to him through the Public Defender’s Office.
For this reason, Judge Anthony Lambrecht chose to adjourn the initial appearance until the 29-year-old Schofield man obtains legal counsel.
Medrano is accused of traveling to Manitowoc County to sexually assault a child who, at the time, was under the age of 13.
During his bail hearing last week, it was also revealed that he was supplying the child with THC during the alleged assault and grooming.
Medrano will now return to court for his adjourned initial appearance on July 6th in Branch 4.
Until then, he remains in custody on a $30,000 cash bail.
