Court proceedings have been suspended for the Manitowoc man charged after threatening to kill someone with a machete.
Court records show that 31-year-old Dakota A. Hefty was back inside a Manitowoc County Courtroom on Thursday (April 23rd) for his preliminary hearing as he faces charges of Second-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety and Disorderly Conduct, each with the use of a dangerous weapon.
At that hearing, Hefty’s legal counsel, Nathan Heim, raised issues of competency and requested that his client receive a competency evaluation.
The court obliged and ordered the 31-year-old for the evaluation and suspended court proceedings.
Also, at that same hearing, Hefty made a motion to lower his bail from $2,500 cash to $300 cash; however, the court denied any bail modifications at this time.
Hefty was arrested after threatening an individual with an airsoft gun and a machete, telling the victim that they would kill them and cut their head off.
He will now return to court on May 14th in Branch 2 for a competency hearing following his evaluation.
