The man charged with stabbing his wife in 2023 has been sentenced.
63-year-old David J. Downs was sentenced to nine years in prison, followed by six years on extended supervision.
Bond conditions include having to maintain absolute sobriety, full-time employment, providing a DNA sample to the Department of Corrections, and having no contact with the victim, among others.
The 63-year-old will be back in court on August 18th for a restitution hearing.
Downs was found guilty due to a no-contest plea on a charge of 1st-degree reckless injury, which was amended from the initial charge of attempted 1st-degree intentional homicide.
Manitowoc Police were dispatched to a home in May 2023 after a witness reported the stabbing.
A criminal complaint says Downs retreated into the home, and officers immediately began giving aid to the victim.
A Taser had to be used to bring the 63-year-old into custody.
The victim said Downs was angry with her before she was shoved to the floor and stabbed.
