Eastern Wisconsin’s representative in Congress is voicing his support for the City of Manitowoc’s funding request.
The City, Briess Malt & Ingredients, Co, and Briess affiliate Grainshore LLC applied for $28 million in funding through the 2025 Port Infrastructure Development Program to help with the revitalization of the Port of Manitowoc.
Representative Glenn Grothman wrote a letter to Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy in support of the local project, saying “this project has the capacity to make among the most impactful supply chain and transportation improvement the region has seen for decades.”
The grant, which would be used for the Midwest Multi-Modal Development Project, would be used to update port infrastructure, increase storage capacity, and improve how grain is stored and moved between ships, trains, and trucks.
The project was recently granted $20 million through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which was aided by support from Senator Tammy Baldwin, making this a bipartisan effort.
