It was a big weekend for two local radio stations.
WOMT Radio was Named the News/Talk “Radio Station of the Year” for a Medium Market on Saturday night at the annual Wisconsin Broadcasters Association Awards Gala.
This is the 5th year in a row for this prestigious honor for the staff of WOMT.
In addition to the station of the year, the writers of WOMT news also were present the prestigious “News Operation of the Year” for Medium Market Radio.
The popular “Jim & Rick” show again won a 1st place award for “Best Morning Show” in a Medium Market, which can be heard every Friday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. or at SeehaferPodcast.com.
WOMT News also received a first-place award for “Live on-scene reporting” while covering the fire at Globe Laundry on January 17, 2023.
WOMT News was also recognized with a 1st place award for “News Writing,” telling the story of Myke Hollahan, who was struck by a sudden cardiac arrest with his family and EMS saving his life.
WOMT News also was recognized with a 1st place award for “Best use of Audio in News” during a story about Lucy Redo celebrating her 100th birthday.
The production department scored a 1st place award for the “Best Public Service Announcement.”
On the Social and Digital side, SeehaferNews.com received a 1st place award for “Best Online Breaking News Coverage” for reporting on the firing of Manitowoc Lincoln’s football coach.
In total, the team of writers and producers for WOMT and SeehaferNews.com were recognized with 23, 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place awards.
Additionally, a radio station across the hall from WOMT, Lake 98.1, was recognized as the “Station of the Year for a Medium Market Music Radio”.
WLKN was presented a total of five 1st place awards as part of the 12 total received during the ceremony in Madison on Saturday night.
The awards were judged by 62 members of the media in 3 different States.
