Throughout the pandemic, Grow it Forward in Manitowoc has been assisting residents in need by giving out food. They are continuing that tradition, as they will start handing out food boxes with the help of the USDA.
The national organization has been shipping food to food pantries throughout the country through the Farmers to Families Food Box program which Grow it Forward has been a part of.
The boxes will be distributed on Mondays through the end of April between 2:00 and 4:00 PM at their location at 1501 Marshall Street.
However, Grow it Forward CEO Amber Daugs said she has some reminders for those taking part.
“Please remember not to block driveways, intersections, or crosswalks. We want to be good neighbors, so make sure you are kind. If you don’t feel like waiting in line, we recommend you arrive around 3:00 PM, so we can go through that first group of people that have been waiting in line.”
Also, those wishing to take part are being asked to line up facing east on Marshal Street, going toward their building.
Grow it Forward has been a part of the USDA program for just under a year, with their first distribution taking place in April 2020. Since then, they have distributed just over 2 million pounds of food.
