The murder of a Milwaukee housing inspector has prompted city officials to offer new protections for employees in the field. Greg “Ziggy” Zyszkiewicz was shot during a carjacking attempt in March. And after getting employee input, the city has offered personal panic alarms to field workers — along with safety vests, decals for workers’ personal cars while on business, safety awareness training, and a map of safe places like police and fire stations. Also, Milwaukee issues mobile phones to city workers who don’t have their own. Besides the inspector’s death, aldermen have raised questions about gunfire aimed at two city parking ambassadors last month.
