The Marshfield City Council has removed Mayor Bob McManus after a controversy over deleted text messages.
When a public records request was made for copies of those messages they were gone.
McManus said he thought he was archiving the text message as you would archive emails, but he had been told that wasn’t the way the system worked.
That led to questions about the mayor’s honesty.
He says he doesn’t know much about technology.
City Council members say McManus knowingly deleted the text messages between his account and the police chief’s account – and he shouldn’t have.
