Eighteen points by senior forward Lauren Van Kleunen weren’t enough to push the Marquette women’s basketball team into the second round of the N-C-A-A Tournament Sunday.
Virginia Tech sent the Golden Eagles home with a 70-63 defeat.
The Eagles had melted the Hokies lead to three points, 66-63, with a couple of minutes left, but Tech hit four clutch free throws down the stretch to advance to the next round.
The Golden Eagles were playing the N-C-A-A Tournament for the fourth straight time.
Marquette finishes its season with a 19-and-7 record.
