The Minnesota Golden Gophers built a big lead, then held off a furious Wisconsin comeback in Tuesday’s championship game of the Big Ten Conference Hockey Tournament.
The Gophers won 6-4.
Roman Ahcan had two goals for the Badgers.
After jumping to a 5-1 lead, Minnesota saw its edge melt to just one goal when sophomore Cole Caufield scored with just over two minutes left, but an empty-net goal for the Gophers sealed the deal with 24 seconds on the clock.
The loss was the first for Wisconsin in more than a month.
Both teams are expected to be named to the 16-team N-C-A-A field Sunday.
