A Manitowoc woman is facing a litany of charges after it was discovered that she was mistreating her pets.
The investigation into the 22-year-old woman began when a citizen reported that the suspect had neglected her dog resulting in its death.
The black and white female pit bull was found at the suspect’s mother’s home and was reported as being severely malnourished. The officer said in a report that you could see the dog’s ribs, and shoulder and hip bones protruding into the dog’s skin.
A search warrant was obtained to search the suspect’s home in the 800 block of Buffalo Street, which the officers described as being “filthy”. Piles of canine excrement and urine stains were reported, and there were dog bites on multiple items in the apartment. A deceased ferret was also located, which the officers estimated to have been dead for several weeks or months.
When the officers contacted the suspect, she claimed she hadn’t been to the apartment since December, and that another man was supposed to be taking care of the dog. However, that man claimed to have not seen or spoken to the suspect in roughly two years.
The woman was arrested on four counts each of Mistreating Animals, Failure to Provide Proper Food and Drink to Confined Animals, and Failure to Provide Proper Shelter and Sanitation Standards for Animals.
