The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says applications for the state’s fourth elk hunt are open.
Hunters will have until the end of May to apply for tags, with winners notified in June.
The D-N-R reports the northern herd elk population reached 300 last year and growth is anticipated again.
As it stands now, that’s the only management zone expected to be included in the hunt which takes place October 16th through November 14th and December 9th through the 17th.
The season quota hasn’t been set.
Last year, five tags were issued to state hunters and five more to Ojibwe tribes.
