Several sources are reporting the Green Bay Packers are trying to trade outside linebacker Preston Smith.
Smith is set to count $16-million against the team’s salary cap in 2021.
Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst has been quoted as saying he expects Smith to be on the roster for the coming season – but the Packers could save $8 million in cap space by trading or releasing the athlete.
Smith has a $4 million roster bonus due later this month.
He was a major presence for the Green Bay defense in 2019 with 12 sacks and 55 pressures, but those figures dropped off to four sacks and 26 pressures last year.
