The City of Manitowoc has applied for funding through the Safe Drinking Water Loan.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources said the application is intended to address deficiencies in Manitowoc’s public drinking water system, primarily involving the replacement of lead service lines citywide.
A news release from the DNR in Madison stated activities related to the project are minor actions under state code. However, following the SDWLP federal requirement, an environmental review must be conducted before funding this project.
The state program has determined the lead service line replacement will not result in significant adverse environmental effects and no further review is necessary before proceeding with funding.
The public is encouraged to submit comments regarding the decision by March 19th to: Department of Natural Resources, c/o Kevin Olson, Community Financial Assistance, 101 S. Webster Street Madison, Wi. 53707.
