The City of Green Bay and the Oneida Nation have signed a cooperative governance agreement.
As for what that means, basically, the city will provide services such as garbage collection and street repair on reservation lands that overlap the city limits, while the tribe will be able to identify tribal lands within the city, which can then be put back into a federal trust.
The governing bodies already have a bit of a symbiotic relationship, as the Oneida Nation casinos draw hundreds if not thousands to the Green Bay area, while Green Bay offers these visitors a variety of places to eat, drink, and play when they are done playing the slots.
This new 10-year agreement, which was signed by Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich and Oneida Chairman Tehassi Hill at the Green Bay Botanical Gardens, is the first intergovernmental agreement between the two sides in 5 years.
