Officials with the Milwaukee Health Department confirm that 34 doses of the Moderna vaccine were allowed to expire Monday.
The health department says there’s no indication it was intentional.
When it became apparent that workers had prepared more syringes than needed for the number of people who showed up there was a scramble to identify unscheduled, eligible candidates for the shots. Doing that reduced the number of wasted doses from 140 to 34.
Officials say 1,058 doses were administered at the Wisconsin Center Monday. They say they are working to make sure there are no unused doses again.
