A report from the McIver Institute finds Wisconsin state revenues are in good shape and a tax increase isn’t needed.
Democratic Governor Tony Evers wants to raise taxes by $1.6 billion so another $8 billion in spending can be added to his state budget plan.
The McIver report indicates Wisconsin has a surplus of about $1.5 billion and another $1 billion in its rainy day fund.
Republicans on the Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee also agree with the institute’s conclusion that there’s no need to spend as much as Evers wants to spend.
