Roncalli High School was recently gifted 20 student biological compound light microscopes and one teacher trinocular biological compound light microscope through a private donation from an alumnus.
The teacher microscope can be used to project onto a screen and has a camera to take photographs. The student microscopes enlarge 40 to 1,000 times, while the teacher microscope enlarges 40 to 2,500 times.
The microscopes are used to study cell types in Human Biology (Histology), the cell cycle/mitosis in General Biology (Cell Biology), and general cell structure in prokaryotes and eukaryotes in Freshmen and General Biology.
Science Teacher, Gina Blaser voiced her appreciation for the gifts, saying “Advanced equipment like this not only supports classroom learning but also prepares students for future career endeavors in the field of science.”
