College basketball can surprise you.
A stumbling Marquette basketball team that had lost six of its last eight games marched into the Dean Smith Center Wednesday night (February 24th) and humbled heavily-favored North Carolina 83-70.
Freshman Dawson Garcia led the way with 24 points and 11 rebounds, while D-J Carton contributed 17 points and five assists.
It was just the 18th game the Tar Heels have lost on their home court since the Center was opened 35 years ago. It also delayed by at least one game North Carolina head coach Roy Williams’ 900th career victory.
The nonconference win improved Marquette’s record to 11-and-12. The Golden Eagles will try to reach the .500 mark and extend their winning streak to three-in-a-row when they visit U-Conn Saturday afternoon (February 27th).
