A proposed change to state tax law could save Wisconsin businesses more than $540-million in taxes, and also directly benefit several Republican legislators.
Payments made to businesses under the Paycheck Protection Program are not federally taxable but are currently subject to state taxes.
The bill would eliminate those state taxes over the next three years.
Reports indicate that four Republican lawmakers took those payments to help their own businesses, including Assembly Speaker Robin Vos and Senator Joan Ballweg.
The Assembly could be voting on the measure as soon as next Tuesday.
