A 9-year-old Manitowoc girl is dead, and the operator is facing charges following a single-vehicle crash this morning (Monday) in the Town of Manitowoc Rapids.
Sheriff Dan Hartwig says deputies and EMS personnel responded to a single rollover crash on I-43 South of Middle Road at approximately 8:40 AM. A preliminary investigation indicates that a 51-year-old Manitowoc woman was traveling north on the Interstate when she lost control and entered a ditch and overturned -ejecting the girl, who suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
The woman was transported via ambulance to Holy Family Memorial for treatment of “possible injuries” and is being held in the Manitowoc County Jail on charges of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle and operating after revocation -causing death.
Assisting agencies on scene include Manitowoc Fire and Rescue, Manitowoc County Coroner’s Office, Manitowoc Police, Manitowoc County First Responders, Manitowoc County Joint Dispatch Center, Branch Fire Department, The State Patrol, and Hi-Way 42 Garage.
