Is your vehicle properly equipped to handle the bitter cold?
Jeremiah Novak is the owner of Novak’s Service Center in Manitowoc, and he says the first and perhaps most important thing you do is fill the gas tank.
Novak explained to SeehaferNews.com, “If it’s too low any water will freeze up the lines leading to a tow and likely having to charge or replace the battery.”
Warming it up for several minutes is also important because it will help warm up the vital fluids before you hit the road. However, you don’t need to go out and start your vehicle every hour.
Novak explained that “We’re not at the point where you’d need to go out and do that but if you’re concerned it won’t hurt anything, but I wouldn’t recommend it.”
Novak does recommend you check tire pressure before you leave. “We’re filling a lot of tires at the shop due to low tire pressure,” he said. “Please check it. 2007 and newer models have an icon that will pop up reminding you to fill those tires.”
The local repair shop expert adds that “taking the little time necessary to check the list now will potentially save you a lot of headaches and money later.”
