The State Assembly has repealed Governor Evers’ statewide mask mandate.
25th Assembly District Representative Paul Tittl of Manitowoc -who voted yes to pass a Joint Resolution to revoke Evers’ Emergency Order tells SeehaferNews.com that this was just not about “masks and mandates.”
Tittl says, “It’s not all about the masks. It’s about the Constitution and the Governor’s orders. He has a right to declare a public emergency for up to 60 days. After that, he’d have to seek legislative approval. I also signed onto a letter sent to Governor Evers that asks for him to sit down and draft rules and bring them through the Assembly Rules Committee.”
He goes on to specify that he isn’t against mask-wearing, “I’m still recommending people to wear masks, practice social distancing, and if you’re feeling ill stay home and quarantine.”
They voted today a week after the State Senate also voted to kill the resolution. The Assembly was to vote last week but tabled when it was discovered that any public health emergency order tied to the pandemic put $50 million of monthly federal food aid to the less fortunate in jeopardy.
The repeal does not affect mask mandates imposed by local governments. Senate Majority Devin LeMahieu says the resolution will take effect tomorrow upon joint signature of both he and Assembly Speaker Robin Vos.
