Officials with the Sun Prairie Area School District have apologized for what they call a “grave error in judgment” by middle school teachers.
Those teachers now on administrative leave asked students how a slave should be punished if he disrespected his master. The district says the classroom activity wasn’t “racially conscious.”
The parent of a sixth-grade student at Patrick Marsh Middle School objected, calling the incident disturbing.
One of the teachers involved reportedly told that parent she didn’t know it would be offensive and thought it would be a good discussion for students to have.
