
MONDAY
– The 50th-anniversary show of Heart-A-Rama has been postponed until this fall. According to a news release from Heart-A-Rama Producer Jim Pautz, the show was rescheduled to October 28th, 29th, and 30th, and November 4th, 5th, and 6th.
– The Manitowoc County Health Department has received a vast increase in their number of COVID-19 vaccines. Health Officer Stephanie Lambert told SeehaferNews.com that they were allotted 1,200 vaccines for this week and are currently scheduling appointments for eligible citizens. This will be the first week that adults 65 and older will be able to sign up for a vaccine, and they join frontline healthcare workers, residents in long-term care facilities, and police and fire personnel.
-Manitowoc County Emergency Services Director Travis Waack is asking citizens to utilize the County website as much as possible for COVID-19 related questions. He said that Health Department workers have been inundated with calls about the vaccine, which is keeping them from doing other important work. -There are three blood donation opportunities in Manitowoc County in the coming weeks. The first is in the Village of Mishicot on Thursday January 28th from 1:00 until 6:00 PM at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church at 325 Randolph Street. Then, in the Manitowoc area next Monday, February 1st from 1:30 to 6:30 PM, you can donate at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, located at 11-303 Wehausen Road. Finally, Thursday, February 18th between 2:00 and 6:00 PM, donors are encouraged to donate at Grace Lutheran Church, located at 2426 North Rapids Road.

-The snow claimed its first accident this morning in Shoto. According to Major Jason Orth of the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Department, a 50-year-old man from the Town of Two Rivers was driving south on County Highway B, when he lost control of his Ford F-150 near the left curve by Manitou Drive, and entered the West Twin River. No injuries were reported.

– Three weeks after swearing in two new Police Officers, the Manitowoc Police Department has added one more officer into their ranks. Matthew Baughman was sworn in by City Clerk Mackenzie Reed-Kadow yesterday. Officer Baughman will begin his four-month-long field training program with the department.
WEDNESDAY
– A Manitowoc woman is facing charges after she allegedly sent her boyfriend to the hospital. The victim told the officers that he was woken up by his girlfriend at around 8:15 AM, because she said she was upset by a message he had received from another woman. This instigated an argument, and she reportedly hit him with a small camping torch.
– A coffee and team company in Sturgeon Bay has issued an allergy alert recall for one of their products. Two lots of Door County Coffee and Tea’s French Vanilla Flavored Cappuccino Single Serve Cups have been recalled because they may contain milk and soy. Click here for more details.

– Even though Easter is a little over two months away, the Two Rivers Senior Center as announced an Easter event scheduled for early April. THURSDAY
– Healthiest Manitowoc County – Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition (HMC-SAP) has received a $1.25 million, five-year SAMHSA Partnership for Success (PFS) grant. HMC-SAP will use grant dollars to reduce access and acceptance of alcohol and vape products among minors. The grant is also focused on increasing positive activities, connections, and engagement for youth in Manitowoc County.
– An Appleton man has been convicted of killing a child and attempting to kill his girlfriend. 26-year-old Demetrius L. Williams was in Outagamie County Court on Tuesday (January 26th), where he pleaded no contest on charges of 1st Degree Intentional Homicide, and Attempted 1st Degree Intentional Homicide. A third charge of Attempted 1st Degree Intentional Homicide of an Unborn Child was dismissed but read into the record.
– The Manitowoc County Health Department has begun their COVID-19 vaccination efforts for citizens aged 65 and older, as well as Police and Fire Department personnel. – As is the case any sweeping changes occur, scammers are now trying to cash in with a COVID-19 vaccine scam. The Better Business Bureau Scam Tracker is getting reports of cons ranging from calls phishing for personal information, to phony messages claiming you need to pay to guarantee your dose. FRIDAY
– State Senator Andre Jacque of De Pere has teamed up with three other legislators to introduce the Apprenticeship Tuition Tax Deduction Bill. The bill creates an income and franchise tax deduction for tuition expenses paid by a taxpayer for an individual to participate in an apprenticeship program that is approved by the Department of Workforce Development. Currently, tuition for universities and technical colleges qualifies as tax deductible, but apprenticeship program tuition is not.
– Two men who allegedly vandalized the De Pere Riverwalk and Pier have been ordered to stand trial by Judge Beau Liegeois. Both 18-year-old Austin Lord and 20-year-old Zachary Dahlenburg waived their preliminary hearings, and are scheduled for arraignments in late February and mid-March respectively.
– High school is supposed to get students ready for the real world, and the Luxemburg-Casco School District is attempting to do just that with a new program. The School District has already implemented an alternative high school program and have plans on expanding it with a Diesel Tech program. Students in the program can simultaneously work on their high school diploma and a one-year technical diploma in Diesel Mechanics through NWTC.
