
Appleton North overcame a 22-point deficit early in the 2nd half to rally past Manitowoc Lincoln 62-to-60 Saturday night in a nonconference boys basketball game at the JFK Fieldhouse.
The host Ships (now 4-&-4) used a red-hot shooting first half to grab a commanding 32-14 lead at intermission. But, the Lightning who were playing their third game in as many days fought back for the win, their 9th of the season against 8-losses. Maximus Nelson, a 6’8 junior, took game scoring honors with 25-points, 22 of those coming in the 2nd half. After Lincoln’s Gage Cornell nailed a 15-footer from the baseline with 7-seconds remaining to tie it, North’s Jack Budiac converted a drive-in layup with under a second left for the game-winner.
The Ships wound up with 3 players in double digit scoring led by Mason Dopirakwith 23 points, Matus Dopirakadded 15 to go along with 8-rebounds and 7 assists and Ashton Portmann chipped in 11.
Lincoln travels to Bay Port Tuesday night.
