Sixth District Congressman Glenn Grothman recently sent a letter to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi applauding the success achieved by the National Guardsmen and women who came to Washington, DC to secure the inauguration ceremony of President Joe Biden.
In the letter, he urged the leaders to reward their service with a tour of the Capitol building. “I have seen hundreds of National Guardsmen and women every day over the past few weeks who are tired, cold, and ready to go home,” said Grothman. “They have had their lives disrupted to come protect the U.S. Capitol. It would be unfortunate, particularly for those who traveled from a long distance, to only see the U.S. Capitol from the outside and not be able to see the inside.”
National Guard members from all 50 states and three territories are represented, many of whom have never been inside the Capitol building and may never make the trip back to Washington, DC. Grothman asserts that a fitting conclusion to their service outside the Capitol would be a tour of the inside.
