It’s a good starting point – the Wisconsin Badgers will be able to rely on a talented, experienced defense next season, with eight of the team’s 11 starters returning.
Cornerback Caesar Williams is the latest to announce on Twitter he will be using the extra year of eligibility offered by the N-C-A-A. Williams has played 35 games in his Wisconsin career, starting 12 of them.
The defensive starters who won’t be coming back include Eric Burrell, Isaiahh Loudermilk, and Garrett Rand.
The experienced players mean the Badgers have a reasonable expectation of matching or bettering the 17.4 points-a-game the team allowed last season, good for ninth-best among college teams.
The just under 300 yards-a-game the defense gave up was fourth-best.
