Koby McEwen scored the game-deciding bucket, then Theo John protected the lead by blocking a shot in the closing seconds, as Marquette edged St. John’s Saturday 73-71.
After the block, the Red Storm missed a desperation 3-point attempt at the buzzer.
D-J Carton led a balanced scoring attack for the Golden Eagles with 14 points. Greg Elliott and Justin Lewis both came off the bench to score 13 apiece.
The win improves Marquette’s record to 8-and-6 overall, including 4-and-4 in the Big East Conference.
The Golden Eagles host Georgetown Wednesday in Milwaukee.
