More than four months after the process began the Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission has suspended its search for a permanent police chief.
Commission chair Nelson Soler the group’s authority isn’t clear until the legal claim by former police chief Alfonso Morales is resolved.
The FPC voted on a successor to Morales twice last month, but the vote was tied both times.
Acting Chief Jeffrey Norman wants the job permanently.
He took over on an interim basis when the previous acting chief, Michael Brunson, retired.
Milwaukee Common Council President Cavalier Johnson had asked the commission to put things on hold earlier this week.
