Members of Milwaukee’s Common Council are accusing the attorney of former Police Chief Alfonso Morales of making racist remarks.
Frank Gimbel appeared on a WTMJ radio show Monday saying former Police Chief Harold Brier was “an old-fashioned law and order guy if ever there was one.” Gimbel also suggested the Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission is faltering because commissioners are appointed according to zip codes instead of their intelligence.
Brier got in hot water 36 years ago for making racist remarks. The council accused Gimbel of being a supporter of the controversial police chief, saying Gimbel’s comment about zip codes implies commissioners are appointed according to their race.
Gimbel denied the accusations and says he’s always supported racial justice.
