Milwaukee’s acting police chief was one of the original candidates for the job.
Chief Jeffrey Norman took over the position on an interim basis Wednesday – but he says he’d like to have the job permanently.
The Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission has voted twice on the choice for a new chief. Each vote ended in a tie. Now, there are calls for the commission’s decision to fire Chief Alfonso Morales to be investigated.
Norman says the department is dealing with violent crime, reckless driving and community engagement.
He says he understands those priorities and has been working on them for more than 24 years.
