With any city that has been around as long as Manitowoc has, there is bound to be some strange and unusual tidbits of information in it’s past.
Carl Sieracki, who is a history teacher at Lincoln High School, worked with the Manitowoc Public Library to create a program for their Facebook page. “During the quarantine, April through June, we did a weekly series called ‘Weird Manitowoc’, where we looked at strange and rarely talked about or forgotten things in Manitowoc,” he explained.
“Then they asked us to come back with a holiday extravaganza.” So, for the past month or so, the team did some research and put together a holiday-themed episode of the series. “It’s amazing…how many interesting and wonderful things come out of here,” Sieracki told SeehaferNews.com. “For instance, the largest tinsel producing factory in the world at one point was centered right here in Manitowoc, started by our first socialist mayor, Henry Stoltz.” Sieracki called the project a “neat little exploration of the joys and intricacies and oddities of Manitowoc.”
