As much of Wisconsin prepares for significant snowfall this weekend, AAA reminds motorists that snow and ice can create extremely dangerous driving conditions that demand extra caution.
Before starting out in snowy weather, take time to remove the snow from the entire car – not just the windshield and windows. Snow from your hood and roof can blow onto your windshield or the windshields of other drivers.
If you have gotten a new car since last winter, it would be a good idea to re-familiarize yourself with your braking system. Drivers with anti-lock brakes should apply firm, constant pressure while those without may need to pump the pedal in order to avoid loss of traction while stopping.
And always remember to compensate for reduced traction by increasing your following distances.
To put it simply, if you see snow, be sure to go slow.
