Attorneys for former Milwaukee Police Officer Michael Mattioli are suing the city’s Fire and Police Commission over the release of some records.
Mattioli is accused of putting Joel Acevedo in a chokehold during an argument last April.
Mattioli has entered a not guilty plea to charges of first-degree reckless homicide for Acevedo’s death.
The suit was filed after the commission and the police department determined some records regarding the former officer – including body and dashboard camera footage – should be released.
His attorneys are trying to stop that, saying it would keep him from receiving a fair trial.
