Sophomore Sydney Hilliard scored 24 points to lead the Wisconsin women’s basketball team to a 73-66 victory Sunday over Western Illinois in Sunday’s season opener.
The Badgers used their strength inside to grab 21 offensive rebounds. Sophomore Sara Stapleton led the way with 11 rebounds.
Imani Lewis scored 13 for coach Jonathan Tsipsis and Alex Luehring scored 11 points in 16 minutes off the bench.
Julie Pospisilova had five assists and a career-high six steals.
The Badgers open their Big Ten Conference season at Iowa next Saturday.
