Tomorrow is known as National Small Business Saturday. One of the more vibrant local independent businesses in the lakeshore area is the Read Apple in Schroeder’s Department Store in Two Rivers.
Owner Pam Duveneck tells SeehaferNews.com when you shop locally, the money stays here. She said, “We try to support local events in town and do try to give back and support those activities, like the fireworks, also.”
Duveneck explained that her staff focuses on having educational toys and games for their customers, including “Puzzles have been a hot item this year. We carry puzzles for ages 1 to 101.”
Just like everyone else, she said her business has had to make adjustments due to COVID-19. She explained, “We’ve adjusted hours, offer appointment shopping, curbside service, put many more pictures on our Facebook page, and shipped out packages to customers.”
Duveneck was asked What sets them apart from the big box stores, to which she replied, “We like to get involved with our customers ask them what they’re looking for, and make sure they’re picking out the right item when at the store.”
She feels popular educational, hands-on products this year will again be STEM or STEAM-based, meaning those with science, technology, art, and mathematics, including Teach-Tech.
Duveneck wants to thank her customers for their support, adding many of them stop in periodically and say they’re happy the Read Apple is still here.
