The Milwaukee Brewers need to stock up their farm system, making it likely they will hang on to their competitive balance draft pick.
They traded it off that last two years, getting reliever Alex Claudio and catcher Omar Narvaez in return.
The 2021 Major League Baseball Draft is full of talent after this year’s five-round draft.
Claudio has never performed for the Brewers as he did with the Rangers and though Narvaez is a good receiver, his hitting was non-existent.
It’s okay to trade the pick, but if all it brings back is a non-tender candidate like Claudio and Narvaez, the team may decide to use it to draft a future big-league player who can be developed.
