The Roncalli/Two Rivers Boys Soccer Team was honored yesterday afternoon by the community for winning the WIAA Division Two State Championship Saturday night.
Their 2-0 Victory over Sauk Prairie brought home the first Gold Ball in program history.
Senior Striker Tyler Bonin scored both Jets’ goals in the second half. “It’s amazing to represent Roncalli in such a great way,” he said. “My teammates are awesome. We really trust each other and we we’re able to do our jobs. Everything just fell into place.”
Bonin says this championship didn’t happen by accident. “We put a lot of work and effort in over the summer,” Bonin explained. “We just kept developing our skills, became closer as a team and all the hard work paid off.”
Roncalli President John Stelzer Tells SeehaferNews.com that winning this championship represents so much more than just a soccer title. “A group of young men, the coaches and families set a goal, learning about hard work, teamwork, stressing values including family and prayer as a part of the sporting experience,” Steltzer said. “Learning how to overcome adversity and represent our school and community extremely well. Not only playing well but setting a good example for those who will come after them and showing everyone that you can be successful doing things the right way.”
Bonin also had some advice for underclassmen on how to continue and sustain success. He says “Keep working Hard and feel free to ask me anything. I’m always here. I’m their teammate and always will be. Set Goals and look forward to the future.”
