Seven members of Milwaukee’s Common Council have signed a letter to the Fire and Police Commission asking it to stop the process of hiring a new police chief.
The letter refers to the “reported internal dysfunction” affecting the commission and the department of Executive Director Griselda Aldrete and her chief of staff last week.
The three finalists for the position of Milwaukee police chief are scheduled to attend a virtual community meeting Saturday where they will discuss issues and answer questions.
The Common Council members are questioning the validity of the commission as it moves forward.
