Before the onset of COVID-19, the State Boys Soccer Tournament has been held at Uihlein Park in Milwaukee, but the scene has shifted to three different locations, based on divisions.
The Division-2 tournament involving the Roncalli/Two Rivers co-op is happening at Marshfield High School this weekend. Marshfield Athletic Director, Nathan Delany, spoke about the WIAA awarding them as a host site.
“It’s great for our community to see that their support and hard work is recognized at the state level,” Delany said. “It is complicated obviously this year, like everything else is, but it continues to show the facilities we have in our community are great venues for high level state competitions and that’s important.”
He also spoke about having just a few weeks to prepare for a state tournament. “Right now, it’s a lot of questions,” Delaney explained. “Some of the ins and outs of their sponsorships and videos, and things they don’t necessarily have down in Uihlein for the state soccer championship. There will be a couple of things that we can do here that they can’t.”
The Jets co-op team is scheduled to play a state semifinal match on Saturday morning at 11:00 against Medford. The other pairing has Delavan-Darien meeting Sauk Prairie, with the two winners to meet for the D-2 championship at 7:00 that night.
