Brewers first baseman Ryon Healey has refused outright assignment to Triple-A and has opted for free agency.
That moves him off Milwaukee’s 40-man roster.
Healy has batted .261 with 69 home runs in 405 career games.
He has more than three years in Major League Baseball and that gives him the right to refuse the outright assignment.
He played in only four regular-season games for Milwaukee during 2020, hitting just .143 with no homers and no RBIs.
Meanwhile, they won’t save enough money to bring a big-dollar free agent slugger to Milwaukee, but the Brewers are cutting their entire social media department.
Most onlookers think the team is trying to save some money in a time of lost revenue due to COVID-19.
Every expense is being assessed these days, but the salaries of the two people handling the Brewers’ social media, Aaron Oberly and Caitlin Moyer, are a very small part of the minimum salary any player might earn.
Social media has been given credit for improving fan engagement and drawing younger fans to Miller Park.
Brewers owner Mark Attanasio reported an operating loss in 2019 – before the coronavirus pandemic emptied the stands for Major League Baseball.
