One of the hardest parts of this pandemic for many people is the inability to visit loved ones who are in the hospital for whatever reason.
With each hospital taking a different approach to the issue, it’s hard to know for sure what each hospital’s protocol is in regard to how many people can visit a patient. We spoke with Tom Veeser, the Chief Nursing Officer at Holy Family Memorial in Manitowoc, who explained how they are handling it.
“We’re of the mindset that patients do better in their road to recovery with a solid patient advocate or family member,” he explained. “Whether that is helping them with small things at the bedside, or listening to the doctor on the different options, or keeping them relaxed while they’re convalescing.”
And with that mindset, they decided that, “For the most part, we allow one visitor per patient that is tested every day for temperature and has to wear a mask.” Vesser told SeehaferNews.com that most people are accepting of that protocol. “I would say the majority of people are either quietly or openly appreciative,” he said. However, “We do have a small minority of people who want to challenge that or have more visitors, but we manage that ok.” Veeser also said that while he is aware that everyone is getting tired of being isolated, most of the cases are stemming from family gatherings. He stressed the importance of not holding such functions, and quelling the spread of COVID-19.
