US Senator Tammy Baldwin is applauding the Navy’s decision to name the next Columbia class submarine the “USS Wisconsin.”
Baldwin says, “this is a real honor to our proud shipbuilding tradition and the men and women of our state who have worked hard to support this class of submarines.” Baldwin introduced a bipartisan resolution and led the Wisconsin delegation’s request to the secretary of the Navy to name a submarine the USS Wisconsin. The last Navy vessel to bear the name served in every major US conflict after it was launched in 1944 until it was de-commissioned in 1991.
