A study by the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health indicates high school sports isn’t responsible for the spread of COVID-19.
Researchers worked with the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association and the more than 200 schools that responded to a survey.
Of the 209 athletes who know how they got the virus, only one said it happened while participating in sports activities.
In more than half the cases, the source was contact at home and 85 students reported the source was community contact – not at school.
The COVID-19 case rate among athletes was well below reports from the Department of Health Services for Wisconsin residents 14-to-17 years old.
