The first day of the recurring National Guard Community COVID-19 testing at the Manitowoc County Expo Center was deemed a success.
Manitowoc County Emergency Services Director Travis Waack was on the site as the gates were opened, and he was amazed by the sheer number of cars that were waiting.
Waack said that “At 10:00 when we opened the gates…the line wrapped clear around the property. There had to be 100 cars in line.”
Despite the large number of cars, Waack said that by 11:30 the National Guard had pushed all of them through, and there were only a few cars in line a time the rest of the day.
“The Guard has gotten super efficient at these sites,” Waack explained. “Obviously they have done hundreds of them now, so they really know what they are doing and have fine tuned the process…It was really incredible to see.”
The Guard will be back on November 3rd and 17th and December 1st, and will also be at the Sheboygan County Fair Grounds every Wednesday and Friday through December 9th. Waack said that anyone is allowed to go to any testing site, as they are not limited to residents of that respective County.
