Local jobless rates plummeted in September. Numbers released Wednesday by the State Department of Workforce Development show Manitowoc’s unemployment rate was 5.1%.
That’s a decrease of 2.2% from August’s number and is the largest decrease recorded by Wisconsin’s 33 largest cities. However it is still well above last September’s rate of 3.1%.
Meanwhile, Manitowoc County’s jobless rate in September was an even 4%, down significantly from August’s 5.7% but above September 2019’s number of 2.8%.
Preliminary September 2020 numbers declined in all 12 metro areas and 72 counties in Wisconsin.
