Manitowoc County Sheriff Dan Hartwig
Over the past several months, police forces around the Country have been receiving lots of criticism due to the George Floyd, Jacob Blake and most recently Officer Joseph Mensah cases.
These cases have left many people doubting their local police forces, and many calling for the defunding of police, and criminal charges against the offending officers.
Media sources around the country have stoked the fires, but that is not the case in Manitowoc County according to Sheriff Dan Hartwig. “One thing I always like to say is I’m happy I’m here in Manitowoc,” Hartwig told SeehaferNews.com. “Manitowoc Supports its law enforcement, supports its law enforcement officers. Over the last several months, we’ve seen a lot of stuff in the media hammering on law enforcement, but locally the media has been very good to us.”
Sheriff Hartwig also said that the community has been very supportive of the Department and his Deputies. “We’ve had everything from doughnuts to cards to emails to phone calls,” the Sheriff said. “The love and support from our community is greatly appreciated. Those calls and emails do not go unnoticed. When you have the support of your community, it goes a long way.”
Deputies in the Manitowoc Sheriff’s Department have been deployed to several Wisconsin cities to help local entities with civil unrest, including in Green Bay, Madison, Kenosha, most recently in Wauwatosa.
